Viking Wines is one of the youngest and smallest enterprises based in the Barossa Valley. It's premium red-clay vineyards produce a miniscule 2000 cases per year. These top-quality wines are few and far between.

The low yields are the product of 50+-year-old organically dry-grown vines.

These big ful-flavoursome reds have been noticed internationally for many years and have received consistent top reviews by most influential wine critics such as Robert Parker Jr., Steve Tanzer and James Halliday coming into the class of "Outstanding".

Viking Wines are sleek and smooth, full-bodied with concentrated black fruit, silky soft tannins, with well-rounded lengthy finishes.

The wines have good ageworthiness due to the power of the fruit and high alcohol.

The success of these new Iconic wines is the result of owners Tord & Charmaine Soderstrom dedication to producing a top quality brand. Prior to them purchasing the property in September 1993, the Shiraz was purchased by Penfolds for incorporating into it's world famous "Grange"

Tord and Charmaine realized "we had a prime Shiraz-grown estate at our hands and wanted to bring the best out of it's rare old vines by producing our own individual bottle of magic". In 1995, with sufficient wine stock at hand, the Soderstroms opened their small boutique winery, naming it Viking Wines.

The organically grown vineyards are over 50 years old, dry-grown (non-irrigated) and hand pruned. The roots of the vines go several metres down into the deep friable soil resulting in bearing top quality berries with abundance of full flavour, colour and aroma.

The fruit is hand-picked at optimum ripeness-flavour, gently crushed, open-fermented and matured in a combination of French Oak and American Oak.

Recently Viking Wines had the honour of producing their Royal Reserve Shiraz 2004 (derived from their famous single Grand Shiraz Vineyard) in honour of the Swedish Royal visit to Australia in November 2005.

Viking Wines Estate consists of 15 acres of Shiraz and 5 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon. The remaining 60 acres consists of natural bushland with gum trees, birdlife and even some kangaroos. The cellar door is nestled on the knoll of the hill overlooking a magnificent vista of the Barossa Valley.
