97 Points James Halliday

A rarely encountered fusion of finesse, length and intensity, and remarkable for its varietal purity and presence. Beautiful cassis and blackcurrant varietal fruit expression runs through the palate to its vibrant, surging finish. From Margaret River, not Coonawarra. Trophy medal Sydney Wine Show '10. Drink to 2024.

"Clean and bright with blackcurrant, red fruits, chocolate, aniseed and liberal cedar oak – all ripe but nothing over-played. It’s medium to full bodied with perfect oak and fruit integration, fine ripe tannins and feels fluid and extremely long. There’s no heat and no noise – just pure Cabernet joy all the way through. Fabulous wine. I scratch my head and wonder why there can’t be more wines like this."

Winery Notes

Thomas Hardy’s vision for exceptional wine saw him emerge as one of the industry’s most influential sons. To this day his inspiration, vision, generosity and self belief stand as hallmarks of the Hardys label.

First released in 1989, Thomas Hardy Cabernet Sauvignon is the pinnacle of our winemaking and viticulture and is a fitting tribute to our founder.

The 2004 vintage is crafted from vineyards in the Wilyabrup sub region of Margaret River, Western Australia. Grapes were hand harvested from 35 year old vines and destemmed before being hand plunged with skins gently removed. The wine was then racked to barrel to undergo malolactic fermentation, spending 16 months in Bordeaux coopered barriques.

This combination of vine maturity, careful fruit selection and judicious winemaking has produced a world class example of Cabernet Sauvignon, without doubt the very best Thomas Hardy Cabernet Sauvignon yet made.
