Giaconda's Chardonnay is widely regarded as the best Chardonnay in Australia. Winemaker Rick Kinsbrunner first released this complex and powerful Chardonnay in 1986. The limited production wine is made from vines planted on a south-facing site in Beechworth in the foothills of the Victorial Alps in Northern Victoria. Several years ago, Kinsbrunner took the unusual step of not releasing 2003 Chardonnay as the abnormally hot growing conditions that year meant that the wine was not up the high standards of the earlier outstanding vintages.

Winner of the Qantas/Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine's Winemaker of the Year in 2003, Kinsbrunner also makes an outstanding Pinot Noir using traditional Burgundian methods.  Equally highly regarded Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon are made in a Bordeaux style. In this small, boutique winery where production is limited to 2000 - 3000 cases a year, the emphasis is on refining vineyard management to lower yields and improve ripeness without tipping the balance in favour of too much alchohol.  Source: Giaconda Wines
