How can Cellarit sell top vintages of wine for less, often a lot less, than other retailers? Unlike traditional retailers, Cellarit eliminates expenses such as retail floor space, sales staff, etc., and invests heavily in proprietary technology to keep overheads ultra-low...and service ultra-high. The wine is for sale by our wine storage customers (who contribute towards wine storage costs) and Cellarit avoids tying up money in trading stock. Basically, we work on very narrow margins because we've squeezed the middle-man...us! That means sellers can set their prices lower and you get more wine for less. But that's not all. In addition to great wine prices Cellarit provides a quality inspection program, prompt and courteous responses to your queries and fast & reliable insured delivery.

Fast Delivery from Perfect Storage Conditions

Orders received by 1pm on a business day are on the delivery truck the following business day. That means next-day delivery to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra and many other metro areas in between (or an extra day or so anywhere else Australia-wide) direct from perfect climate-controlled wine storage. All wine bottles love constant temperatures of 14 degrees centigrade and 70% relative humidity so that's what we provide prior to carefully packaging your wine for its journey to its new home. Don't have a similarly luxurious resting place for your wine at home? That's easy and inexpensive to fix - you can purchase wine and leave it in storage with us until you're ready to drink it. Just tick the 'add to my wine storage account' box at checkout...and your wine storage account is opened automatically!

Quality Control and Wine Condition

Cellarit inspects all wine bottles before they're listed for sale. Unless otherwise noted, all wine is in excellent general condition and appearance with good fill levels, no evidence of leakage or heat damage and good labels and capsules. It doesn't mean perfect as there may be minor cosmetic imperfections and "wear and tear" associated with normal shipping, cellaring, handling or age. Older vintages generally have lower ullage levels than current vintages and bottles with an ullage significantly below the base of the neck of the bottle are noted.

The Cellarit wine list is 100% "live" so if a wine's listed it's available. Wine quantities are updated instantly after each sale so when a wine is sold-out it simply disappears from the list. Just say "no" to annoying "sold-out" notifications from now on! Simply choose a wine category tab (Penfolds Grange, Red, White, Champagne, etc.) to find what you're looking for. Or, click on 'Additional Search Options' to quickly find a specific winery, region or vintage. You can sort the list easily by clicking the top of any column.

Why Some Bottles Listed For Sale At Different Prices...

• Sometimes the same wine is listed at different prices in the Cellarit Wine Market
  »That's because some sellers just want a quick sale so be on the lookout for bargains!
  »We recommend that you choose the bottle with the best price unless there's a condition note indicating otherwise
• Other times there's a reason for different prices for the same wine. For example,
  »Wine with defects such as torn labels or low ullage levels sells for a discount
  »Wine with an "original presentation box" or "signed by winemaker", etc., sells for a premium

Where Do Older Wine Bottles Come From?

When you're looking for a particular vintage wine you may notice that quite a few retailers have that bottle for sale...sometimes at wildly different prices! So, are some retailers' vintage bottles better than others and/or are they worth more? Generally, no. Purchasing older wine is definitely an example of when you should resist the urge to feel that "higher priced = better". Very few, if any, retailers invest the capital to hold back or "stockpile" more than the most current vintage or two of any wine. So where do older bottles of wine come from? Retailers source the vast majority of vintage wine from collectors, deceased estates, restaurant bankruptcies and the like. Cellarit wine is generally for sale by wine collectors whose collections are stored in Cellarit's temperature-controlled storage facility. As mentioned above, everybody's selling the same wine in the bottle and if the bottle condition is honestly described the only difference is...the price and service!

If you're a Cellarit wine storage customer just click on the 'price/quantity' icon next to your wine to list it for sale. From that moment it's instantly available and advertised to our regular customers plus a world-wide audience via several wine-specific search engines.

If your wine isn't in Cellarit wine storage, we'll collect and transport it free of charge from anywhere in Australia. Transit insurance is extra at 1% of value and normal wine storage fees apply. You'll receive a notification email / receipt report and then your can list your wine for sale. Our How to Sell Wine section has all the details. Comparison of Cellarit and Traditional Wine Auctions

There are similarities and differences between Cellarit and traditional wine auctions. As with any service, there are pluses and minuses depending upon your perspective and requirements. On balance, traditional wine auctions suit collectors and bargain hunters who have the time and patience to wait for wines of interest to become available. Cellarit offers convenience and value where anybody can purchase whatever's listed for next-day delivery at generally lower prices than from a wine retailer. So, Cellarit occupies a niche somewhere between wine retailers and traditional wine auctions. Our goal is to deliver the best of both to purchasers and sellers.

As discussed above, Cellarit sells wine on consignment, similar to an auction house. We make every effort to inspect the condition of the bottles and to make a note if there are significant defects. However, we cannot guarantee what's inside the bottle. Wine from Cellarit is sold "as-is" and Cellarit does not replace or refund corked or otherwise "faulty" bottles. By way of explanation, unlike traditional retailers selling current-release wine, Cellarit can't return bottles to a wholesaler for a refund. It's not a situation we're happy about but any other policy for us is economic suicide. If that's a "deal-breaker" for you, we understand and apologise. You might prefer to pay more money (hopefully not too much more!) from somebody else that offers a full "no-questions-asked" refund policy.

Transit insurance is included in the delivery price of your order and covers breakage, no-delivey, theft and other perils during transit but not heat damage (we recommend keeping your wine in storage with Cellarit until the summer months have passed).

GST Info & Tax Rebates When Wine Is Taken Out of Australia

All wines and fees are inclusive of GST and you pay nothing on top. Unlike wine auctions where only some lots are inclusive of GST, a Cellarit tax invoice allows businesses or those leaving Australia with their wine to receive a tax credit and/or a full tax rebate under the Tourist Refund Scheme (TRS). Even better, the TRS rebate is available to visitors and Australians alike. We apologise that Cellarit does not provide tax rebates for wine shipped to customers outside of Australia. Please note that your tax invoice is emailed to you and not packed with your wine.
