'Smart' Wine Storage Insurance

Most storage providers offer insurance cover. But all cover is not alike...

If your storage provider offers insurance for a flat-fee/case without regard to your wine's value:

  • How do you know what you'll receive in the event of a claim?
Cellarit's insurance is based on value. You set the price according to your cost or the market value of your wine (Cellarit can provide a market valuation free-of-charge). This data is secure, backed-up and easily provided to the insurer for documentation in the event of a claim.
  • What if there's a catastrophic event such as a fire?
It's easy for a storage provider to pay claims for the occasional dropped bottle and in this sense most providers are self-insuring for some claims. But what happens if there's a total loss due to a fire? If your wine isn't insured to a specific value then clearly your storage provider has only provided an estimated total value to the insurer when it purchased cover. If they underestimated the requirement you're out of luck! Cellarit keeps precise track of all wine insured and its value and makes frequent adjustments to its policy to ensure that full cover is always in place.
  • Are you, in fact, the beneficiary of the coverage?
Cellarit's policy specifically provides that the ultimate beneficiary of a claim is the customer, not Cellarit. This is important! After Heritage Fine Wines failed, for example, its policy was found to name Heritage Fine Wines as the beneficiary so any pending payouts will benefit Heritage creditors, not wine owners. News Flash! We're now able to lower our wine storage insurance rates due to economies of scale:

  • Old rate:   $0.75/$1,000 value/month (0.90% p.a.) incl. gst.
  • New rate:  $0.60/$1,000 value/month (0.72% p.a.) incl. gst. from 1 July 2010*

*subject to a minimum of $0.03 per 750ml bottle per month
Additional Info:

  • Our software makes valuation easy. You can upload your wine details to Wine-Searcher to find current market value. Just click on the price/quantity icon next to each wine you wish to value.
  • It's best to assign accurate and current individual values to your wine. Otherwise your payment in the event of a claim may be less than full value if the insurer determines that your collection as a whole was under-insured.
  • If you prefer Cellarit to value your collection (free-of-charge) please let us know.  We'll make an estimate to cover you until the valuation is complete.

New & Improved Software

Registered Cellarit customers, whether they store wine with us or not, have access to our software to catalogue their wine.

Cellarit is always looking at ways to enhance the usability and value of our software for our diverse range of customers.

The two new enhancements described below were developed in response to client feedback, so please contact us with any suggestions to enhance these new features or any thoughts you may have for further improvements.

Tasting Notes & Information

"My Cellar" lists your wine stored at Cellarit or catalogued elsewhere. Next to each wine is a set of icons, including "i" for information.

The "i" icon takes you to a page which gives you further information about your wine. You can now type in tasting notes or add any additional information about the wine in the new text box.

Just click "update" and the information will be permanently stored for that wine.

"Add a Wine" to our Database Tool

While our database is very comprehensive and includes wines from most major producing countries, our customers are always finding new wines or wineries that are not yet in the database.

We respond to requests to update our database almost immediately, but now you can use our new "Add a Wine" tool to add a new wine to our database yourself.

After you logon, go to "Catalog My Wine" or "Send Wine to Cellarit". If you can't find the wine you are looking for, click on "New Wine". You can use the pre-formatted lists to indicate the country, winery, variety, etc. or just type the information into the text boxes and click "Create Wine".

Cellarit assigns unique serial numbers to every wine in our database and reviews each new wine entry for accuracy before permanently adding it to our database.

We hope you'll find these new features useful.

Cellarit Website Tops the List

The August/September 2006 Australian edition of Vogue Entertaining & Travel features a comparative article about wine internet websites ...

Title: Net Gains
Subtitle: It takes a lot of bottle to drag a traditional industry into the 21st century, but, says Greg Duncan Powell, internet companies are changing how we deal in wine

Listing Cellarit first among the major wine websites, the article cites Cellarit as having "the most user-friendly of the wine websites, offering key services of buying, selling and cellaring at very competitive rates"

The article continues, "As canny managing director Scott Witt says, 'without a bricks-and-mortar shop front, all we have to offer our customers is service and value.'"

Also, "...The nifty website lists recent sale prices on a huge number of wines and can be used to set a sale price. Wine is available for sale 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can purchase single bottles and have them shipped to eastern capitals for next-day delivery."
