Huon Hooke
Light to very light yellow colour. Bready, yeasty and lightly nutty aromas, more floral or fragrant than most of the '02s. Palate is very intense, dry and penetrating: concentrated and long, but with refinement and seamless texture. Amazingly vivid and persistent - the finish glides on and on. Power plus. Great wine. Many years left in it. And not too dry - interestingly, not as dry as the 02 Grosset Watervale.

Much less evolved than the 2001, the 2002 Polish Hill Riesling is still very citrusy with lemongrass, white blossoms, shaved almonds and chalk. Very zesty and taut, it offers crisp green apple and lemon flavors throughout the very long finish. This wine still has a lot to give! It is approachable now but can cellar to 2025+. The 2012 vintage was typical in terms of heat and rain which resulted in wines closer to the 2001 vintage in style.

Light straw-green; the toasty but discreet bouquet has crisp apple and mineral notes, but is far from flamboyant; the palate is already offering much more power than the bouquet, with flavours running through from apple to lime and a long finish. Drink to 2016.
