Ranked #6 of 20 2008 Shiraz from Coonawarra
93/100
4.5 Stars
Huon Hooke
Deepish red-purple. Nutty and nutmeg spice aromas. Very shiraz, but also ripe and lacking cooler-year spiciness, certainly no pepper. Elegant, medium to full-bodied, a twinge of acidity showing through. Ample dry, dusty tannins to close. Soft texture. Very good wine.

Matured 14 months in new French (61%) and new American oak (39%), Wynn’s 2008 Michael Shiraz gives a very deep garnet purple color and pronounced fresh blackberry and cassis notes over nuances of dried mulberries, cumin seed, cinnamon stick, cloves and forest floor plus whiff of black pepper and black truffles. Medium to full-bodied with a medium level of very fine tannins, this is a elegantly styled Shiraz with great concentration and a long harmonious finish. Approachable now, it should cellar to 2024+.

97 Points James Halliday
Dense, deep purple-crimson; one of the best newborn Michaels for many years; there is a beautiful fusion of fruit, oak and tannins, the wine flush with flavour, yet miraculously retaining elegance, its long-term future gold plated. Drink to 2040.
