97 Points James Halliday
The great news - this is a stunning wine. The bad news - 60 dozen made. Fruit off the Merricks Grove vineyard, 100% whole bunches, wild ferment, light foot treading, aged 10 months in French oak hogsheads, 50% new. Unfined/unfiltered. Utterly compelling and highly delicious. Earthy, rhubarb and beetroot fragrance with star anise, cinnamon quills and Tuscan prosciutto lead to black cherries and pips with blood orange. On the full-bodied palate the tannins hold sway - ripe, smoky and powerful with refreshing acidity to close. Drink to 2030.
