Ranked #2 of 46 2009 Shiraz from Lower Hunter
A superb wine, combining concentration and elegance. Still youthful, a great wine. It really needed time. Not so easy to assess back in 2011.
Drink: to 2039
93 Points Robert Parker
Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2009 Winemaker’s Selection Vat 9 Shiraz has a savory / fruity style with notes of warm black cherries, blackberries, bacon, crispy duck skin, anise and allspice. Medium-bodied with a good backbone of high acid and medium-firm level of grainy tannins, it has great concentration and a long tight-knit finish. Give this one another 1-2 years in bottle and consider drinking it 2013-2020+.
