I tasted two different versions of Gimonnet's signature NV Cuis 1er Cru Brut Blanc de Blancs earlier this year; both were excellent as usual. The most recent disgorgement from January 2015 is based on the 2011 vintage (+ 22% Réserve wines), and is very pure, lovely, fresh and delicate on the typically intense, chalky/mineral, well balanced and elegant palate. The lighthearted yet quite complex wine was disgorged with a dosage of 6.5 grams per liter. The forerunner, based on 2008 and disgorged in October 2014, was even finer and provided with a very god length.

The NV Brut Premier Cru Cuis makes a great introduction to the house style. White flowers, spices, pears and peaches are some of the notes that take shape in the glass. This is a fairly round, approachable style for Cuis, but it works, especially within the context of an entry-level wine. The Brut Premier Cru Cuis is a blend of vintages; 72% 2008, 13.3% 2007, 3.3% 2006,7.5% 2005, 3.9% 2004 to be exact. The wine was disgorged on June 30, 2011. Dosage is 8 grams per liter. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014.

The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs Chardonnay Premier Cru Cuis is all citrus, flowers and stone fruits. This pure, beautifully sculpted Champagne flows with layers of flavor on a sinewy, mid-weight frame. The finish is long and well-articulated if perhaps just a bit austere. The Blanc de Blancs Chardonnay Premier Cru Cuis is 100% Chardonnay Cuis, based on 2007, with reserve wines from 2006, 2005 and 2004. Disgorged May 28, 2010. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016.

93 Points Tyson Stelzer

A merry celebration of the freshness of the premier cru village of Cuis, this is the quintessential apéritif and one of the most pristine champagnes for its price. Impeccable phenolic maturity without high sugar levels in 2010, made for one of Cuis’ great vintages. It sings with crystalline purity of lemon blossom, lemon juice and grapefruit, and an almond nut maturity providing a sense of dimension. Gentle chalk minerality and beautifully integrated dosage linger with outstanding persistence.
