Ranked #5 of 28 2013 Shiraz from Glenrowan
Dense purple/red colour, with a bright, intense, fresh plum and sooty/charcoal aroma. Ironstone and dark chocolate as well. The wine is very concentrated in the mouth, powerful and muscular, with rippling tannins like the six-pack of an ironman. The richness and generosity of fruit and flavour more than balance the tannins, formidable as they are. This is a statuesque wine, loaded with flavour and great structure to match. Long term. 97 Points James Halliday
Hand-picked and sorted bunches from the 110yo estate vineyard; open-fermented and basket-pressed, only 166 dozen made. The dense colour is no surprise, nor is the powerfully fleshy palate; in the manner of old vines, the tannins are in fact fine, allowing the succulent plum and blackberry fruit free play. Given the screwcap, future generations might marvel at a 100yo varietal wine from vines planted 200 years ago. Drink to 2058.
