Ranked #32 of 114 2008 Shiraz from Barossa Valley
Medium red purple. Very good colour. Spicy, elegant style suggestive of cooler-climate grapes. Meaty barrel-ferment overtones; lots of toasty oak! Palate is full and round, soft and velvety, with lovely balance and style, not oaky in the mouth, with very good drinkability. Some glycerol and alcohol later, giving warmth and viscosity on the back-palate. Soft and round is the key.

The 2008 Neil Ashmead GTS is a Shiraz cuvee from the riper 2008 vintage. Purple-colored, it has an alluring bouquet of damp earth, lavender, pepper, bacon, and blueberry. Full-bodied on the palate, it has a glossy texture, layered flavors bordering on opulent, incipient complexity, plenty of depth and richness, and a long, fruit-filled finish. It can be enjoyed now but will drink well for a decade.
