Ranked #3 of 28 2019 Shiraz Tempranillo Sangiovese from Heathcote
(700ml) Dense, vivid, glass-staining purple colour, the aromas ridiculously ripe and hedonistic, with an inky sweet blackberry jam and licorice nose flecked with spices, the taste similarly intense and yet not as massive as expected from the appearance and nose. A very sweet and strong fortified wine, reminiscent of what we used to know as Blackberry Nip. Firm but subtle tannins lurk beneath the ample richness and sweetness. A remarkable drop that takes the idea of vintage port to extremes.
Drink: 2020 to 2035
A blend of Shiraz and Tempranillo grown at our Adairs Lane Vineyard in Mia Mia, and cofermented
in a small open fermenter. Fortified on skins and left in to open for 4 days prior to pressing. Aromatics are of
dense Christmas cake, sweet spice with lashings of brandy cream. The palate is filled blueberry ice cream, chocolate,
blackcurrant liqueur and sweet spice. The 2019 hugs you with warmth like a long-lost friend. It’s so compelling and
welcoming. The aromas fill the room. Cellaring potential of 30 years. Bottled in 700mL only.
