Huon Hooke

Huon Hooke

Medium to deep red, little purple. Dull, porty, subdued and forward bouquet without freshness or vitality. A hint of oxidation. Palate the same. Reflects the lesser year, yet doesn't have the hardness or toughness of many '07s. Chewy tannins and some density, but I cannot see value in this vintage of this wine. Others will inevitably like this more than I.
Tasted: 20/07/2011
Drink: 2011 to 2020

98 Points Robert Parker

Co-fermented with a splash of Viognier, the 2007 RunRig gives a very deep garnet-purple color and a perfumed nose of warm cassis, crushed blackberries and blueberries over anise, cassia, cloves, tea leaves, rose hips plus earthy hints of black truffles and tilled loam. The full-bodied palate offers rich, ripe but not over-ripe fruit with a taut structure of firm grainy tannins and crisp acid, finishing very long with a gamey/savory character coming through with some cedar and baking spices. Not a style to be broached too early, consider drinking this from 2015 to 2025+.

94 Points James Halliday

Strong colour, albeit with some development; an extremely complex bouquet, with black fruits, leather, tar and cedar dominant, the full-bodied palate adding fruitcake and mocha; the tannins are in balance, which is a blessing. Shiraz/Viogner. Drink to 2022.
