96 Points Robert Parker
The prodigious 1998 Eclipse possesses a dense purple color as well as floral, blackberry, cassis, smoke, pepper, and roasted meat characteristics. It is a rich, well-made, flawless effort displaying a plush texture, and no evidence of oak. Drink it over the next decade.

85 Points James Halliday
Medium to full red-purple; the bouquet is attractive, with distinctively ripe and juicy grenache leading the attack. The palate is brimming with rich, juicy ripe fruit dusted with spice. One of those 'two bottles in one' wines with a lethal number of standard drinks. Drink to 2005.
