Ranked #2 of 25 2019 Shiraz from Beechworth

Huon Hooke
Bright and youthful, deep purple/red colour. The bouquet is undergrowth-tinged with whole-bunch ferment characters, which together with fragrant oak are adding a sweet perfume to the nose. It's full-bodied and supple in the mouth in spite of lashings of drying tannins, the wine is tremendously deep and well structured and carries very long into the aftertaste. Approachable now because of its suppleness and balance, but it looks set for a long and rewarding career. Obviously cool-climate shiraz but powerfully structured, concentrated and high-extract.

Seriously good any way you look at it: stylish presence in the glass, the meshing of fruit and oak, tannin management or the sheer enjoyment it brings. A world of black- and blue-berried fruit awaits; intertwined with an autumnal, earthy, undergrowth character, deep spice and a touch of savouriness. Glides with the aid of supple tannins to a firm, lingering close. Drink to 2045.
