Huon Hooke
Deep-ish purple-red colour, deeper and more purple than the other single-vineyard pinots, the bouquet showing intense roasted meats and smoked charcuterie aromas with mint and more evident smoky oak; a serious, brooding, earth-bound bouquet. Good concentration and palate weight, with lashings of fine, dry, powdery tannins. A pinot of very serious depth, structure and power, but perhaps without the detail and fragrant lift of the high-country wines.

The most complete single-site pinot in the range, a warmer spot has helped this vintage, it’s still tight and uploaded with acidity but all the other elements are there to play a part. The silky tannins, the dark fruits and spice, the warm earth and undergrowth aromas. A more elegant style as a result. Drink to 2031.
