89 Points Robert Parker
Considered "a good wine from a very difficult vintage," this wine was also the first vintage for the current Penfolds chief winemaker, John Duval. A blend of 93% Shiraz and 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, this wine has considerable amber at the edge and an intriguing nose of melted road tar, caramel, leather, coffee, and blackberry. It is medium to full-bodied and fully mature, with good spice and a somewhat dry, angular finish with dusty tannin. Drink it over the next 4-6 years.
