The first vintage of 407. McLaren Vale, Padthaway, Coonawarra. Desne, developed and appelaing red which is still showing good berry primary fruit flavours together with savoury toast, forest floor and Bovril complexity. Impressive wine in a fairly ""tradtional"" style. Rich and tarry.

"I’ve seen lots of opinions of this wine over the years but at the Rewards of Patience tasting it looked good, if not brilliant.
Typical Penfolds cabernet. Mint, blackcurrant, pure and clean and with lots of fresh fragrance. Holding up very well. Lovely juicy flow through the mouth, tempered by cedary, grainy tannins. Indeed, it’s developed, but only gently so – words you find yourself saying of so many Penfolds 1990-vintage reds. Good, medium-level drink."
