Huon Hooke
Very deep, youthful colour and a very rich, fleshy, concentrated style with extravagant ultra-ripe but not overripe fruit aromas and flavours, not overtly cabernet-like but showing dominant ripe fruit characters plus the after-effects of strong oaking, typical of Penfolds Bin 707, and now very complex and layered. A very impressive wine, of density and high extract. Long term; superb.

The outstanding 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 707 is a thick, rich, full-bodied Cabernet emphasizing copious quantities of cassis fruit. Pure, with nicely integrated oak, acidity, and tannin, it cuts a broad swath across the palate. While still young and grapy, this 1998 is loaded with potential. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2015.
