Huon Hooke
Camphor aroma: black fruits, black olive, inky and earthy, ground-up old tractors! The tannins are slightly abrasive, the wine is in good nick but initially seemed to lack the detail of the best. As it aired it got better and better—a cracking wine, seamless, a big full-bodied Clare red but also elegant, which seems contradictory, but it's not.

94 Points James Halliday
Medium to full purple-red; the bouquet has high-toned edges to the blackberry, earth and spice; the massive, mouthfilling blackberry/blackcurrant palate has all-pervasive tannins running through its length, yet is still in balance. Drink to 2028.
