A bit crushed-leafy to sniff. Palate is very firm and a bit pinched. Very firm finish. Grippy. Really sticks the lips together. Needs time still. Best now till 15 years. Tannins are a worry: a bit to green and tough. Should be softer by now

The 1994 Cabernet/Shiraz Bin 389, a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon and 46% Shiraz, possesses a dense purple color, and a big, sweet nose of blackberries, earth, and a touch of asphalt and smoke. Full-bodied, with copious quantities of sweet, chewy fruit, this is a large-scaled, dense wine that can be drunk now or cellared for up to a decade. This winery continues to turn out an insipid selection of white wines, but the reds are all noteworthy, and some are reasonably good values.

Medium to full red-purple; solidly ripe fruit on the bouquet is balanced by pronounced vanillin oak; the palate is equivalently powerful and concentrated, with dark fruit and dark chocolate flavours; the structure is particularly good, with tannins running through from the middle to the finish. Drink to 2009.
