Ranked #5 of 26 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc from Clare Valley
Bright red colour with a purple tinge. Slightly edgy sour cherry and raspberry aromas. A lighter-weighted, elegant, cooler-year wine, with an unexpected trace of mint. Elegance is the key-word. But it's not especially detailed. Very good, but I was expecting something more from this. A great white-wine year but perhaps a little less for reds from cool sites?
Drink: 2019 to 2029
88 Points Robert Parker
A top effort, the 2002 Gaia, a proprietary Bordeaux blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Merlot, possesses a deep ruby/purple color, an elegant bouquet of sweet cherries, black currants, olives, earth, and background wood, lovely richness, and a lean, austere finish. It will benefit from another 1-2 years of cellaring as it is currently going through a restrained, unyielding period, and will last for 10-15 years.
