Ranked #13 of 36 2003 Shiraz Viognier from Canberra District
Drought year; tiny berries. The bouquet is ripe and slightly cooked; good but lacking the detail of the better vintages. Cloves and nutmeg. The palate is a trifle four-square and chunky, but as Tim Kirk observed, it manages to avoid the drying finish typical of so many '03 Australian reds.
Drink: 2012 to 2012
95 Points James Halliday
Vibrantly fragrant and spicy; elegant, medium-bodied black cherry fruit; long and balanced. Drink to 2013.
