The 2000 La Testa fruit was entirely sourced from the winery's premium Merlot block and cropping levels were reduced to less than 2 tonnes an acre. To compensate for the heat of the vintage we kept berry size to a minimum and maximised vine health.
These costly measures were necessary to achieve the quality needed for La Testa. Although wine quantities were reduced , we were handsomely rewarded with a wine packed with concentrated flavours of black cherries, mulberries, dark chocolate and liquorice.
Like the 1999 La Testa Merlot, this wine has a natural soft and voluptuous mouth feel that is held together with fine-grained wood tannin derived from 28 months of maturation in new French barriques. This wine is packed with huge fruit concentration allowing for both early drinking and patient cellaring.
