"Cape Mentelle is a robust, muscular cabernet and in years like 1991, has the ability to age (long term) quite beautifully. This bottle was a treat.
There’s a sturdiness to this wine even now that it’s fully mature. It’s plush and cedary, leathery and still quite rich and intense – but with lots of drying tannin. I’d still call it balanced. It’s cabernet to its back teeth. And – I say as someone who did not drink this blind – Margaret River cabernet to its back teeth. Gravelly and strong and firm.
