"Funny this. I have ummmd and ahhhd for a quite a while over this wine. Oscillated wildly you could say. I can’t decide whether this is a bit too light on and subtle or just supremely elegant and in a style that perhaps more Australian cabernet blends should be aiming for. Either way it is a very good wine but high expectations have been set with the mighty 2004 vintage. It is a blend of 68% cabernet sauvignon, 18% merlot with the rest being malbec.
Aromas of boysenberry, raspberry, leaf, flyspray, earth and lovely cedar, vanilla and tobacco oak. It smells fragrant and clean yet woodsy and spicy at the same time. Like a wearing a particularily good aftershave perhaps (if you take my meaning). On the palate medium bodied and very fine with boysenberry, cassis and fresh raspberry fruit backed with light spicy cedar oak, leaf and more earthy tobacco and mineral flavours. Clean fresh acidity and fine light, but firm tannins. Beautifully balanced. Finishes dry and leafy with fresh red fruit flavours. A subtle and distinctive wine of considerable charm."
