Over the road from our ironstone cellars sits the old Bethany church, est 1854. This site inspired Greg Trott to create the famous ‘Church Block’ wine. However not Trott, but the imposing figure of the church’s resident sexton ruled the roost in the early days. He maintained the buildings and braved the ancient graveyard and no one was in any doubt who was in charge.
So what Trott considered the Church Block, was always the sexton’s acre as far as he was concerned. He gets his ‘day in the sun’ with the limited release of this medium bodied McLaren Vale shiraz. True to varietal and region, it displays classic shiraz characters of plum and red berries with hints of chocolate and spice. We trust the curmudgeonly sexton would approve.
