Ranked #25 of 44 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon from Coonawarra
88/100
3.5 Stars
Huon Hooke
Deep colour, brick-red and developed. Earthy, dusty, savoury, secondary bouquet. Slightly chaffy. Drying tannins, mocha coffee flavours, rich and fleshy and dense, with thickness and chew. Has concentration and gravitas, but not a lot of refinement. Some tomato-like touches.

Deep garnet colored with a hint of purple in the rim, the 2008 The Menzies Cabernet Sauvignon offers aromas of black currant cordial and blackberry preserves with underlying hints of Provence herbs, menthol, soy, black olives, tree bark, cloves and pencil lead. Medium to full bodied and packed with muscular fruit, the flesh is well supported by firm grainy tannins and lively acid, finishing long. Drink this one now to 2019+.

Yalumba has honed in on the detail of its Coonawarra vineyards, with every section of each vineyard treated differently according to soil type and depth. The result is the most precise wines ever produced by the estate. This is a Menzies that provides both crunch and concentration, structure and restraint, purity and profound persistence Drink 2018 - 2028.
