Ranked #6 of 20 2009 Shiraz Viognier from Canberra District

Huon Hooke
Medium-full purple-red, fresh colour. Very attractive fresh, lifted spicy and red fruit aromas with a lick of mint - but subtle. Palate is more serious than a light-red style, with some tannins, albeit soft and friendly. Juicy palate, tasty and very appealing. Light to medium-bodied and quite delicious.

Deep garnet purple colored, the 2009 O’Riada Shiraz (co-fermented with 5% Viognier) has a fragrant nose of black raspberries, crushed black cherries, dark chocolate, cloves and just a hint of torn mint leaves. The palate is nicely balanced with a medium to full-bodied, crisp acid, great concentration and a long finish that straddles spice and fruit. Drinking now, it should cellar nicely to 2019+.

Crimson-purple; a highly fragrant bouquet of spice red and black fruits introduces a finely crafted, medium-bodied palate; spicy pepper and blackberry and fine-grained tannins run through to the long finish; great class. Drink to 2029.
