The Delamotte NV Brut blends approximately 55% Chardonnay with 35% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier. It is clear, round and spicy on the predominantly fruity and vinous nose with its delicate chalk and hazelnut flavors. On the palate this is a lithe, finessed, fresh and elegant Brut with good structure and a pure, salty-mineral and cleansing finish. The mousse is highly delicate, the whole performance almost filigreed yet well structured. This is a delicious Brut. My sample is based on the 2013 vintage that was disgorged in July 2016 with a dosage of eight grams per liter. Tasted November 2017.

Full brassy yellow colour. Very mellow, toasty bread, candied-fruit and roasted nut aromas, nice maturity of bouquet. Still shows good fruit characters. Rich palate, loads of flavour and softness, a clean dry finish after a touch of mid-palate liqueur. Very good wine, complex and benefitting from a little cork age, I suspect. Drink 2011 - 2011.

There's a touch of toastiness on the bouquet and the wine is fresh and clean, soft and quite youthful, with an obvious touch of sweetness coupled with gentle acidity, making for a nicely balanced crowd pleaser. It's ready to go. A reliably good Champagne. Drink 2016 - 2016.

The 2008 base is now a nutty, spicy, preserved lemon and red berry style, showing reductive complexity in toasted bread notes; 2009 is fresher and more lively, with crisp, clean fruit focus; 2010 is challenged by a tricky vintage, coarse, bitter and phenolic, with dry, dusty extract and mushroomy notes rendering it austere. Candied dosage is apparent in all three.
