Huon Hooke
Deep red/purple; profound colour. Smoky char-oak and black fruit aromas. Rich and intense wine throughout with generous sweet/ripe fruit flavour and plenty of supple tannin, leading into a long aftertaste. Blackberry, aniseed/licorice, hearty fruitcake and a note of espresso coffee. A glass-stainer: Deep and muscular without a lot of elegance, but big and dense and powerful in the traditional top-end Barossa style. Penfolds would recognise this style!

This wine is impenetrable in colour; the bouquet is a melange of black fruits, oak, spice, tar and licorice; the palate reveals even more dark fruits, more depth, in fact, more of everything, and that is the essence of the wine; this will go the distance, and if you like impressive wines, then search no further. Drink to 2050.
