92 Points Robert Parker

Penfolds’ newest bin number, the 2008 Bin 150 Marananga Shiraz is the first vintage of this wine. Very deep garnet-purple colored, it has intense aromas of crushed black currants and warm blackberries with underlying hints of Chinese dried plums, salami / Parma ham, soy, stewed tea and yeast extract. Medium to full bodied, the palate is richly fruited with an abundance of berry and savory flavors supported by very crisp acid and a medium to firm level of finely grained tannins. The finish is long and harmonious. Approachable now, it should cellar to 2021+.

96 Points James Halliday

Deep crimson-purple; Penfolds picked almost all of its best shiraz before the heatwave, the grapes for this wine no exception; in standard Penfolds practice, the wine completed its primary fermentation in American and French hogsheads (50% new) and spends 18 months in those barrels before bottling. While luscious blackberry and plum fruit fills every corner of the mouth, the wine is superbly balanced, oak and tannins judged to perfection. Drink to 2050.

93 Points James Halliday

Penfolds’ brand new, jet-black foray into a single subregion is a voluminous, glossy thing with crashing waves of ripe black fruits and dark choc oak. Without the polish of regional blending, it has an inherent rawness and integrity, with a poise derived from those signature Penfolds tannins. Drink 2014 - 2020.
