Ranked #11 of 60 2011 Shiraz from Lower Hunter
95/100
5 Stars
Huon Hooke
A wine of considerable style, Hunter character and complexity. A medium to full bodied wine, in the regional style with tar and leather touches adding to the dried-herb notes. Soft tannins, drinking well now.

97 Points James Halliday
Bright, clear crimson-purple; the grapes come from the oldest and best blocks on the estate Ashmans Vineyard, with its striking red volcanic clay soils; hand-picked and fermented in open vats before maturation for 16 months in new and used 2700-litre French casks. However good Johnno's Shiraz may be, this wine has greater intensity, drive and length, with persistent fine tannins and positive but balanced oak. Drink to 2036.
