Ranked #8 of 84 2011 Pinot Noir from Geelong

Huon Hooke
Medium to light red colour, with a slight purple tinge. Brushed potato-like, earthy, vegetable aromas, apparently largely stalk-derived. Just medium-bodied, lean and rather stalky tasting, with light but pointed tannins and a certain sinewy-ness. This is a little too whole-bunch ferment stemmy for me at this time. Not much charm or pinosity, on the day, but I suspect another year or two in bottle will give rich rewards. It needs age before a more accurate assessment can be made. (footnote: I like the Farrside more today. It is more approachable in youth.)

Similar hue and depth to Farrside; while perfumed, this is a deceptive wine, its power and intensity held in a silky sleeve, the fruit with both red and black flavours coursing along the palate; this is the most elegant of the three wines, each one of which is a triumph in any context, let alone that of '11. For release Jul/Aug '13. Drink to 2021.
