Ranked #25 of 25 2012 Shiraz from Beechworth
Faded, medium to full red with just a memory of purple: not a good colour. Foresty, vegetal and savoury aromas, without primary fruit. This smacks of a lot of stems in the ferment. The palate is dried-out and very savoury, with a lot of grip and a lack of freshness. It tastes very forward. Too much stalk for me. (1st release off 10-YO vines. 100% whole bunches)
Drink: 2014 to 2014
94 Points James Halliday
First release but from vines nearing their 10th year. 100% stalks though you'd be hard-pressed to pick it. It's a smoky, fruity, plush wine with meat and black cherry flavours to the fore. Oak and fruit aren't entirely integrated now but all the signs are promising. Ripples of dry, twisting tannin. Excellent length. Drink to 2022.
