Blanc de Blancs Champagne

88 Points Robert Parker

The 2005 Brut Fleuron comes across as a bit flabby, with early signs of advancement in its oxidative aromas and flavors. A soft, creamy finish compensates to some degree, but I don’t find the characteristic Gimmonet sense of focus here. The 2005 Fleuron should be enjoyed sooner rather than later. The blend is 45% Chouilly, 24% Cuis, 23% Cramant and 8% Oger. This bottle was disgorged on December 23, 2010. Dosage is 6 grams per liter. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015.

93 Points Tyson Stelzer

Gimonnet was astute in employing a higher dose of structured Chouilly to temper the power of the rich, ripe 2005 vintage. It’s a credit to the exacting attention of the domain and its magnificent fruit sources that this vintage can look every bit as fine two years after release as it did the day it landed. Its pale straw hue is testimony to its vibrancy, retaining intense lemon and grapefruit, with rising preserved lemon and almond complexity. It carries more evenly through the finish than most in this season, its soft, salty, chalky minerality remains prominent, and it’s far from the end of its life yet.
