90 Points Robert Parker
2008 proved a very difficult vintage for Standish. Only 12% of total production was bottled this year, everything else was declassified and sold. The 2008 Shiraz spent 25 months in seasoned French barriques. Deep garnet-purple in color, it offers intense slightly baked fruit notes of warm black cherry preserves, blackberry pie, some licorice and spice. It’s got a solid backbone of crisp acid and firm chewy tannins as well as concentration that you’d expect of this wine – the fruit just lacks its usual finesse and complexity. Drink it now through 2016.
