Ranked #25 of 63 2015 Riesling from Clare Valley

Huon Hooke
Pale straw hue; the aroma is very restrained and young, 'new' and a bit callow. There are yeasty, almond-like notes. The fruit is very restrained. It's the same in the mouth, where the acidity is high and refreshing, crisp but not tangy or tart. It tastes like a backward style from a cool site. The balance is excellent: fruit, acidity and alcohol are all in harmony. Give it time.

The vineyard was planted in '73, and has been dry-grown, 240 dozen made. This is the most potent and strongly structured of the four Rieslings I have tasted from Kerri Thompson in this vintage, and the most in need of time, however seductive the lingering aftertaste may be. Drink to 2039.
