Perrier-Jouet’s NV Grand Brut is a very pleasant, mid-weight Champagne that shows lovely complexity. Suggestions of smoke, roasted nuts and light honey add character to a generous core of ripe yellow fruit. The wine offers excellent overall balance and a poised finish. This is Lot L2070809871, disgorged November 17, 2007. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2012.

Grand Brut is currently the freshest I’ve seen it, charged with young, lemon zest acidity, finishing crisp and softly mineral for an exuberant, pinot-led style. Its powerful red fruits burst from the glass with strawberries, raspberries and red cherries. The palate is loaded with candied red fruits, its ripeness and dosage conspiring to create a showily exuberant style, with dosage poking out a little on the end.
