Huon Hooke
Deepish red colour with a trace of purple and brick-red in the rim. The bouquet is complex, earthy, oaky and mellow, with some forward-developed meaty, charcuterie and animal nuances. There are definite stalky, whole-bunch nuances. Pepper, crushed seashell notes. The palate is sinewy and edgy but has excellent depth of fruit flavour as well, and is loaded with character. A wine of intensity, depth and exceptional persistence, as well as charm. It's already complex but it's young and shows signs of becoming substantially moreso with time. Very impressive.
