Ranked #14 of 74 2005 Shiraz from McLaren Vale
Oaky, dense aromas of toasty barrels and rich plumcake fruit, well enmeshed. High acidity gives a rather tangy taste, but it enlivens a big, rich, hefty wine. A bit broad and lacks elegance, but many would love it.
93 Points Robert Parker
Deep garnet-purple colored, 2005 D Block Reserve Shiraz has a really earthy / meaty, evolving nose with notes of smoked game, sandalwood, dried cherry, tobacco, charred meat, Indian spices and slightly burnt toast. Full bodied, rich and structured, it has firm finely grained tannins, crisp acid and a long finish. Drinking perfectly now, it should continue to cellar to 2017+.
