Huon Hooke
The colour is very deep and youthful with a strong purple tint and the wine smells young and fresh, clean, bright - with dark berry, spice, earth and subtle oak aromas. The palate is full-bodied and powerful, not really a blockbuster, but packed with firm tannins that tend to rule at this juncture. There is a core of fruit sweetness when you go looking for it, and the wine has stacks of charm. An outstanding shiraz. It's worth cellaring, and will live a very long time.

From the 1893 Central (bushvines) and 1919 Eastern Vineyards. Medium-bodied, firm, great balance, immediately establishes itself - fruit, oak and tannins in a seamless line. Blackberry fruits are a pure reflection of Wendouree ripeness, oak and tannins holding their line in undemonstrative support. The savoury/earthy side of shiraz gives this wine its character, nodding to its foster father Tony Brady. Drink to 2036.
