Ranked #11 of 26 2004 Shiraz from Clare Valley
Medium dark red purple, very good colour. Rich, deep, ripe and concentrated aroma: plummy, minty, impressive. Rich plummy taste, but has an alcohol afterburn and syrupy texture. Query some stressed fruit. Still, it has its charms. Power being one of them! Now to 2024.
91 Points Robert Parker
The 2004 Shiraz “The McRae Wood”spent 17 months in predominantly American oak and was bottled unfiltered. It is a glass-coating inky purple with an expressive bouquet of pain grille, pepper, pencil lead, bacon, and blueberry. Intense, mouth-filling and structured, it will evolve for 3-5 years and drink well through 2020.
