The NV Brut Cordon Rouge opens with attractive, open aromatics that suggest a level of ripeness that doesn’t quite come through on the palate. Still, this fresh, perfumed Champagne is a solid effort in its price range. Peaches, apricots and flowers and complexity on the finish. This is Lot: 1338 L1390907471, no disgorgement date provided. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2011.

A primary, up-front and fruity apéritif champagne of lemon zest and red apple fruit, demonstrably fresher today than it was some years ago. It’s clean and crisp, simple and one-dimensional, with plenty of fruit on the front and not much on the finish. The first bottle I opened showed a grubby, earthy cork character that suppressed aromatics and contracted the finish; the second was pristine.
