Ranked #43 of 93 2014 Shiraz from Broke Fordwich

Huon Hooke
Medium to deep red colour with a trace of purple in the rim and a rich, chocolate and smoked charcuterie bouquet; earthy, sooty and intriguingly complex. Some charred oak and coffee grounds nuances. The wine is full-bodied and rich, with greater density and concentration than the cheaper Glenguin shirazes, and similar savouriness.

97 Points James Halliday
Hand-picked, 30% whole bunches, 7 days cold soak, open-fermented, 14 days on skins, hand-plunged, matured in French puncheons (50% new) for 14 months, 150 dozen made. A totally compelling wine with its multiplicity of messages, half deriving from the terroir and vintage, half from the vinification. It is at once savoury/earthy/leathery and brightly fruited, the fragrance superb, the medium-bodied palate with an overarching drive to its predominantly red fruits. Drink to 2054.
