Huon Hooke

Medium-full red-purple. Good colour. Slightly spicy and ironstone/licorice nose. Sweetish entry, then light to medium-bodied palate with moderate intensity. Obvious sweetness, a decent wine which just lacks excitement. It could work best with sweeter food such as pork ribs with Chinese plum sauce.

Deep crimson; a very rich and concentrated traditional method shiraz, with abundant black fruits, plum and spice, warmed by toasty oak. Will reward those who have leave it on cork for a minimum of 5 years, preferably much more. Drink to 2025.

The colour still retains some purple hue; good mousse; the red fruits have distinct spicy notes, and the flavours are very attractive. However, there is some sweetness from the high baume to the fruit and obvious dosage. It is going to have sufficient support to sell out very quickly, but could have been even better. Despite all this, I can't deny it gold medal points. Drink to 2016.

A superior example, well-balanced, fine and long with plenty of flavour. Hand-picked and estate-grown; however, I am far from convinced this is the best use for the grapes. Drink to 2021.

The cool, wet '11 season infuses a bright purple hue and an eminently pepper-infused palate, supported by rhubarb and black plum fruit, high cocoa dark chocolate, tangy acidity and fine, grippy tannins. An edgy style that will appreciate a few more years to soften and integrate. Drink to 2021.
