Ranked #35 of 114 2006 Shiraz from Barossa Valley

Huon Hooke
Deep red/purple colour, rich and youthful. Opulent mocha and toasty oak bouquet. Blackberry, plum and chocolate. Luscious, ample, full-bodied and generous. This has real dimension. Very big, concentrated and powerful, dense and fleshy, with high extract and chew, partly thanks to liberal use of oak. Tannic and grippy and long. Needs cellaring. Lots of potential here in a traditional, oaky, Barossa shiraz style

92 Points Robert Parker
Deep garnet-purple, Saltram’s 2006 No. 1 Shiraz has intense macerated blackberry and mint aromas with some underbrush, damp loam and allspice notes plus a whiff of anise. Still tight and youthful in the mouth, the full-bodied beauty has generous fruit supported by crisp acidity and medium-firm very fine grained tannins. The finish is long with some earthy nuances. Approachable now, it should open and soften in a year or two and drink best from 2013 to 2020+.
