Huon Hooke
Medium to deep red/purple, good hue but not very deep colour, with a lovely spicy bouquet which has some peppery cool-grown high-notes. It's more reminiscent of grenache than shiraz. The wine is medium-bodied and soft, fine, fleshy and attractively balanced and smoothly-textured, with a trace of graphite on the finish and a little bitterness in the grip - all very acceptable. A lovely drink, and very complex.

Spice, red flowers, pepper and wood smoke all appear and promptly disappear on the bouquet, reforming in a different order next time around, the ensuing palate a pond without a single ruffle. Red cherry infuses all one's senses with a constant framework of spice. The faultless balance will still be sustaining the wine 30 years hence. What value! Drink to 2048.
