Very deep red/purple colour with a reserved, shy, smoky bouquet, the palate likewise rich and deep, savoury and smoky, with some toasty-barrel nuances. There is intense, juicy sweet-fruit buried in the middle palate and the wine has elegance, penetrating drive and persistence. A powerful, impressive wine with long-term potential. (From 1923 planted vines on the Bainton vineyard at Broke Fordwich, and aged in French oak puncheons)
